This is off topic, but sometimes I like to mention things important to me. I belong to "ONE" and they have a petition right now to stop certain cuts in the budget that will have a terrible effect on world hunger and medical assistance, especially to help control AIDS.
Here's where you can learn more if you'd like.
Act Now | ONE
When I was in high school, I belonged to a debate team. I once debated on the topic of world hunger and the issue was about how involved the USA should be. I was on the side for the USA to contribute heavily. The other side argued that "charity begins at home." It was a tough debate, but the thought of starving kids ANYWHERE in the world bothered me, even at that young age. Call me a bleeding heart, but I feel that the USA cannot stop aid to the poorest countries in the world. They depend on us. In America, even a "have-not" is rich compared to the families in these countries. I lost that high-school debate, the only one my team ever lost. It was, by far, the only topic I wish I had won. I know our country is struggling, but these countries are literally dirt poor. They live on dirt, sleep on dirt, eat on dirt, and maybe even occasionally actually eat the dirt. Hard to think about!
ONE does NOT ask for your money, not even your name: just your voice.
About ONE: Backed by a movement of 2 million members, ONE achieves change through advocacy, by holding world leaders to account for the commitments they've made to fight extreme poverty. ONE campaigns for better development policies, more effective aid and trade reform. ONE also supports greater democracy, accountability and transparency to ensure policies to beat poverty. Many high-profile people belong to ONE and they donate time and money, but ONE is not a grant-making organization and they do not solicit funding from the general public. ONE only asks for your voice. Please just click here and your voice is heard for the poor before the budget cuts go to the Senate. It's such a SMALL percentage being cut that will only hurt the poor if these cuts are made. Urge the Senate to fix the House bill now:

I just signed. Thanks for bringing this important issue to us. I'm proud that over 4000 of my fellow Californians have already signed.
ReplyDeleteHi Marti, I have signed, and have posted to facebook so others can see and sign too.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Pam
Thank you for signing. Really, these cuts hurt ONLY the very poor. If we've pledged to feed starving children, we should live up to it. There are so many sad things in the world, and we as indivicuals can only do so much, but a simple click of a mouse CAN make a difference. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
